More Frequently Asked Questions
When Should I Enroll in Medicare?
Your initial enrollment period includes the month of your 65th birthday plus the three months before and the three months after your birthday month.
What Are the Parts of Medicare?
Original Medicare has two primary components:
-
Medicare Part A (Hospital insurance)
Part A covers inpatient hospital stays, care in a skilled nursing facility, hospice care, and some home health care.
-
Medicare Part B (Medical insurance)
Part B covers certain doctor and other healthcare provider services, outpatient care, durable medical equipment, and preventive services.
Note: Original Medicare from the federal government does not cover everything. You’ll want to consider supplemental plans for prescription drug coverage, for example. You may also want separate dental and vision insurance plans.
Medicare Coverage Options

2
Medicare Advantage Plans (also known as Part C)
Medicare Advantage plans are a type of Medicare health plan offered by private companies that contract with Medicare to provide all of your Part A and Part B benefits. Most Medicare Advantage plans also offer other health insurance benefits and prescription drug coverage.
3
Prescription Drug Plans (also known as Part D)
Medicare prescription drug plans are offered by private insurance companies to help you cover the cost of medications prescribed by a doctor. If you decide not to get Medicare drug coverage when you’re initially eligible at age 65, you’ll likely pay a penalty if you enroll later.
Is Personalized Medicare Plan Selection Available?
Your choices don’t have to be permanent. Medicare plans can change every year and we follow up with you during the open enrollment period from October 15 to December 7 to determine whether your health insurance needs have changed.
This personal attention provided by Jim Hough of Wade Insurance and our other independent agents gives you the opportunity to reassess your current plans and make changes as needed.
